Travis Kelce Admits That Heated Super Bowl Moment 'Crossed a Line'
Travis Kelce continued to do damage control over his heated exchange with Kansas City head coach Andy Reid during Super Bowl LVII on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast on Wednesday. And while he may have initially laughed off the incident during a post-game interview; he now, in all seriousness, admits that he took things too far.
The moment occurred during the second quarter when running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled the ball as the Chiefs were struggling to find their footing against the San Francisco 49ers. Kelce could be seen confronting Reid on the sidelines and screaming into his face. He then grabbed the 65-year-old's arm and shoved him, nearly knocking him off his feet.
"It looks like you caught Big Red off guard a little bit," remarked his brother Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce. "You crossed a line, I think we can both agree on that."
"I did. I can't get that fired up to the point where I'm bumping coach and it's getting him off balance and stuff," Travis admitted. "When he stumbled I was just like, 'Oh sh-t,' in my head."
"I mean, let's be honest, the yelling in his face was over the top," Jason reiterated. "There's better ways to handle this, retrospectively."
"Oh yeah. I know, I'm a passionate guy, I love Coach Reid," Travis continued. Coach Reid knows how much I love to play for him, how much I love to be a product of his coaching career."
He then went on to say that he wouldn't play for anyone but "Big Red," and that if Reid called it quits, he'd be right out the door behind him.
"I got a certain relationship with him, he's checked me a few times," Travis explained. "And I just wanted to let him know that I wanted this thing, and he can put it on me and I got him. It just came at a moment when we weren't playing very well, I wasn't playing well, we had to get some sh-t going."
"And sometimes those emotions get away from me, and that's been the battle of my career," he said. "But everybody else, I don't give a sh-t what anybody else says."
Travis then noted that earlier that day, he and Reid had even talked about the incident again and had a "chuckle" over it.
"I couldn't be more proud of being his product on the field, and couldn't be more proud of where we've come, as a team, since I got here in 2013," he added, seemingly closing the book on the controversy. "And I just love playing for the guy. And unfortunately my passion comes out where it looks like negativity, but I'm grateful that he knows it's all because I want to win this thing more than anything."
