Travis Kelce admitted on a recent episode of his New Heights podcast that he once mocked Tom Brady’s pre-game ritual. It backfired, calling attention to Kelce and fueling yet another extraordinary game from Brady.

Travis and his co-host/brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, were talking about how having a bit of beef with members of the other team can be a good thing to juice their game-time performance. Travis admitted to once—somewhat unknowingly—sparking an on-field rivalry with Brady.

Speaking of the legendary QB’s pre-game ritual of running up and down the sidelines to get his Patriots teammates pumped up, Travis admitted: “I mocked him a little bit. And I could see him go from getting hyped with fans to looking at me and just, like, turning that switch on. Like, ‘Who the fuck is this young dude mocking me right now?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, shit. Hope I didn’t just create a beast for the defense.’

He added that the incident stuck with him. “I just poked the bear. I felt it," he said. "That’s not the guy you wanna poke. Learned that lesson real quick. Shout-out to Tom.”

Travis said he related to the moment from Brady’s perspective, as he loves the opportunity to deepen the stakes of a game. “Anything to get the juices going. When I’m playing for something more than just wins and losses. I start digging for shit to, in my mind, create that monster or create that aggression and that focus,” the Chiefs tight end explained.

Jason, however, said that starting beef wasn’t his personal style. “I try not to,” he said. “And it’s genuine. I don’t really hate on [anybody] anyways.”
