Travis Kelce Explains His ‘Protective’ Nature Following Taylor Swift Date Night
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
After a video of Travis Kelce seemingly pushing Taylor Swift's security detail away in order to open her car door himself went viral, the Chiefs tight end is opening up about stepping into a protective role for his yet-to-be-officially-confirmed new girlfriend.
On the most recent episode of the podcast that he hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, New Heights, the NFL star shared an impression someone had posted of him on TikTok, in which they joked about him riding off with the "Mary's Song" singer after the first game she attended sans security.
They then addressed the moment behind the viral video, where Kelce assured listeners that he did not "push" anyone, seemingly surprised to hear that that's how folks were viewing the interaction.
"I placed my hand on the gentleman's back to let him know I was behind him," he explained. "If I would've pushed him, he probably would've turned around and tazed me."
His older brother couldn't help but mess with him, pointing out, "That sounds like a way that somebody who pushed somebody would describe pushing them." Jason then wondered, "Do you feel like you're a security guard when you're with Taylor?"
"Like I'm part of the team?" he asked, laughing at the idea before replying, "I feel like whenever I'm on a date, I'm always having the sense, like, I'm a man in the situation. I'm protective, yeah, for sure. You always kind of have that feeling, or that self-awareness, I guess."
Jason tried to test him, asking which seat he'd choose in a restaurant, but Travis argued that you don't necessarily need to see the entire room throughout your meal—you just need to know where the exits are. Meanwhile, Jason feels the need to sit up against the wall to take in any potential "threats"—to which Travis helpfully suggested he get a security team of his own.
