This Is the Trendiest Sweater to Give This Holiday Season
We all have that one person on our gift list who is, quite frankly, intimidating to shop for. Whether it’s your cool cousin who’s studying interior design at FIT or your best friend who is somehow always three years ahead of the super-trendy thing you thought you just discovered, we feel your pain.
Which is why we turned to the style experts at Moda Operandi to ask them for some help. And they truly delivered. Our exact request: Tell us about the trendiest sweater of the season. What we didn’t tell them was that we were hoping for an item that felt trendy enough to impress even the most up-to-date Instagram scroller...and wasn’t going to put us in credit card debt.
They came back to us with a retro-inspired turtleneck from Perfect Moment that costs $280. It’s offered in two colorways, and we’re partial to the white version with yellow, pink and green accents framing the word ski in pale blue (it also comes in a bold red iteration, if that’s a better fit for your giftee). We prefer the throwback shades because they feel like a nod to the retro ski posters that are plastered across the living rooms of every restaurant within a five-mile radius of a ski resort.
“This knit is an excellent gift for anyone with a ski holiday ahead—no matter how they enjoy the slopes,” notes Jana Hofheimer, a buyer at Moda Operandi. And she makes a good point, because even if they’re just sitting in the lodge, sipping hot chocolate (OK, or white wine) and flipping through magazines, this sweater will keep them looking cozy and fashionable—a hard note to hit with one item of clothing. And, uh, same goes for those who actually hit the slopes. The slim silhouette will easily tuck into ski or snowboard pants and will make for a cute statement piece during lunchtime in the lodge.
Even if they’re not a skier, the recipient of this sweater will get a kick out of wearing this conversation starter all winter—whether that’s for girls’ night or a day at the office.
One more talking point: Kate Middleton is a fan of the French brand, launched in Chamonix in 1984, that Hofheimer notes “embodies fashion and function in each piece.” Kate has been spotted wearing her puffer from Perfect Moment not once but twice; it was a royal re-wear, if you will. Other A-list fans of the label include Alicia Vikander, Bradley Cooper, Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne.
So yeah, this is definitely a knit worthy of the trendiest recipient on your list.
