My skin is going through some sort of cursed metamorphosis as I approach 30. It’s all out of whack and the products that were once my fail-safes have begun failing me. I’ve spent the last six weeks rebuilding a routine from scratch and in the process discovered the most skin-changing product of the year (and I’ve tried 201!) — Dermalogica’s Liquid Peelfoliant.

Before trying Dermalogica’s Peelfoliant, my skin was a chaotic nightmare. It was dry, oily, rough, bumpy, congested yet tender, and overly sebaceous. I felt like I was 14 again, staying home because of how insecure my skin made me feel. Thank god for Dermalogica’s toner-peel-serum hybrid, though,  because after two weeks of use, my skin is noticeably clearer, smoother, plumper, and glowier. The Dermalogica Liquid Peelfoliant is a multi-tasking, multiple-step replacing product. It’s streamlined my toner, clearing serum, and weekly exfoliating pore-clearing mask.

It’s able to play so many different roles thanks to an action-packed formula. I’ll begin with the very comprehensive lineup of acids. There are alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) in the form of phytic, glycolic and lactic acid, beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) via salicylic acid, and tranexamic acid. The cluster of antioxidant-rich AHAs fades discoloration, reduces the appearance of pores, promotes collagen production, sheds layers of dead dull skin cells, and improves texture and hydration. The BHA dives past the superficial layers of the skin where it dislodges congestion, clears acne, and fights inflammation. Lastly, tranexamic acid is a brightener that complements the other acids. Apart from the acids, Peelfoliant is also lipid-rich — its ceramides help smooth, soften, and de-puff skin.

If you want to skip the science lesson, the bottom line is this: Dermalogica’s Peelfoliant is packed with ingredients that fade age, sun, and hyperpigmentation spots, hydrating my skin, making it more supple, plump, smooth, and clear. It’s everything I could ask for in an entire routine — let alone one product.

The brand advises using it every other day to start and then every day if your skin can tolerate it. My complexion is quite sensitive and I find this effective enough that every other day does the trick. Per the instructions, I massage it onto my face and leave it on for two to three minutes before washing it off and continuing with anything else my skin needs — which, thanks to Peelfoliant, is often just moisturizer.

Head to Dermalogica to shop its Liquid Peelfoliant. I’ve tested hundreds of skincare products this year and this is the most impressive and skin-changing yet.
