I think we can all agree mornings feel anything but calm. From family obligations to running errands, there’s barely even time take a sip of coffee, let alone eat breakfast. I for one normally avoid the kitchen altogether while rushing out the door for the office. But one breakfast brand hopes to make even the most chaotic time of the day a bit easier—and sweeter. Belgian Boys, known for their deliciously convenient European-inspired treats, is launching a new line of grab-and-go breakfasts just in time for fall. With products available exclusively at Walmart starting today, September 26, I had to give them a taste test.

A little about Belgian Boys

Breakfast over in Europe just seems fancier, doesn’t it? But if you thought you could only get a taste of French crêpes or Belgian waffles with a plane ticket, think again. Belgian Boys have been making them mainstream for years, aiming to provide families with quick, easy and indulgent breakfasts.

Founded by Greg and Anouck Gotib, the woman-led company has almost tripled its business this past year. Their current lineup includes five budget-friendly products you can heat up in the microwave, toaster or fry pan:

  • Bite-Sized Pancakes that are light and fluffy (nut-free)

  • Original Belgian Waffles made in the traditional Liege style with pearled sugar

  • Bite-Sized Chocolate Chip Pancakes with real Belgian chocolate

  • Original Crêpes, now new and improved for easy rolling and folding

  • Griddle Pancakes you can pop in the toaster

Anouck, the brand’s CEO, is a busy mom herself who knows exactly what it’s like to balance family life and work. Her mission was to make mornings stress-free with high-quality breakfasts from her home country. And speaking of quality, everything is made without GMOs, artificial flavors or preservatives.

As if their products weren’t quick to land on your plate already, Belgian Boys has taken things to a new level of convenience. Their new grab-and-go line provides a similar experience to lunchtime meal kits. It includes two main products, both priced at $4.98. They are available in over 1,800 Walmart stores nationwide in the refrigerated breakfast section.

  • Bite-Sized Pancakes & Go: These come in three flavors: Maple Butter, Belgian Chocolate Chip Butter and Sprinkles Butter. The six mini pancakes microwave for 45 seconds before stirring the different flavored butters.

  • Breakfast All Day Box: Each box contains four mini Belgian waffles paired with either Babybel? cheese and dried cranberries or pure maple syrup and dried cranberries. Both varieties are ready to eat straight from the fridge, no heating required.

“As our stress-free, mess-free breakfast options have grown more popular, we’ve heard from our consumers that they need an even easier on-the-go solution,” said Gotib in a press release. “These new options have everything you need in one convenient package, making them ideal for families on the move.”

As someone who loves European food, I was excited to try Belgian Boys products for the first time.

I started with the Maple Butter Bite-Sized Pancakes & Go cup (360 calories). After taking them out of the microwave, I was happily surprised to see so much maple butter at the bottom. The pancakes were soft, chewy but not overly drenched. I loved dipping them in the butter and the smell was amazing. The maple flavor wasn’t too sweet (the pancakes would have been bland without it).

Next, I tried the Breakfast All Day Box with the Babybel? cheese (240 calories). The mini waffles were super tiny (truly one bite) and light with a subtle vanilla flavor. They paired well with the tangy cheese and sweet cranberries. I liked how everything tasted fresh, though maybe next time I’ll heat up the waffles for a better bite.

Overall, the Belgian Boys grab-and-go breakfast line provides a fun way to start your mornings. And if you have a sweet tooth, it’s like eating dessert for breakfast. I could see myself dropping one in my work bag, but not everyday. Like any premade meal, they’re not exactly the healthiest breakfast out there, and I could save more money meal prepping. But they make a solid choice every once in a while when you’re in a rush.
