Trims Take Direction From Gen Z Fashion Trends

Last week at Munich Fabric Start, trims manufacturers presented Fall/Winter 2024-2025 concepts that align with Gen Z’s interest in expressive, gender-free and sustainable fashion.

Here’s a closer look at how textures, colors and materials factor into the show’s four main trend themes.

Highland Hybrids

Trims in Highland Hybrids mirror the statement patterns filtering across men’s and women’s fashion. Checks and pajama-inspired stripes mix with plush faux fur and vintage-inspired metals. For trims, the traditional motifs are updated with pops of youthful snake prints, unexpected color combinations and undone threads.

Mystic Beings

Nymphs, superheroes, aliens, and monsters inspire Mystic Beings, a theme that experiments with shapes and textures. Reflective materials and vintage-looking sequins mingle with holographic finishes. Monochromatic jacquards, graphic prints and 3D designs add a futuristic touch.

System Cringe

Despite economic, political, and environmental challenges, consumers continue to find sources of optimism and joy. System Cringe reflects this desire to find positivity during bleak times. Trims are bold in color and feature expressive handwritten messages. The theme is also the most sustainable with upcycled and recycled materials at its core.

Kinky Classics

Elegant trims with clean lines are needed for Kinky Classics’ monochromatic satin, sheer and velvet designs. The theme juxtaposes voluminous silhouettes that have a retro ’80s aesthetic with slivers of peek-a-boo skin thanks to provocative slits and cutouts. The theme calls for trims that are playful and adventurous with hints of shimmer and glitter, yet sensual with unfinished elements and tonal colorways.
