Trump is being mocked after calling for an end to 'cocoa' during drug policy event: 'Don't declare war on Swiss Miss'

President Trump isn’t the first commander in chief to flub a line, but he’s probably the only one to be accused of trying to ban chocolate.

As the pro-weed blog Marijuana Moment noted, Trump mistakenly referred to coca, the plant used to make cocaine, as “cocoa” — as in, the hot, steamy beverage served with marshmallows or, loosely, the bean that creates chocolate — during his remarks Monday at a United Nations event addressing drug policies.

Trump made the error in reference to working with Colombian President Ivàn Duque. (Watch the video at about the 7-minute mark.)

“We look forward to partnering with his new administration to eradicate cocoa production in his country,” he said. “All of us must work together to dismantle drug production and defeat drug addiction.”

A White House transcript correctly identifies “coca production,” not delicious cocoa, as the thing Trump is trying to eradicate.

Twitter, of course, was quick to pounce on the mistake.

The good news is it’s almost certain that this was just a slip of the tongue and not an actual crackdown on chocolate. The bad news is that this is the second time Trump has made the gaffe. Behold, his reference to “cocoa cultivation” in a speech last year.
