Trump SCOTUS Pick Neil Gorsuch Has Family Ties to Luxe Ski Brand
On Jan. 31, President Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch, a 10th Circuit Court of Appeals judge, to the Supreme Court to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Gorsuch, a conservative judge appointed by President George W. Bush in 2006, has family ties to the Reagan administration, as his mother, Anne, worked as an administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency in the ’80s.
But there’s another familial relationship tying Gorsuch not to politics, but to the fashion industry. The fourth-generation Coloradan is related to David Gorsuch (known as Dave, who is of no relation to his father, also named David), who started the Gorsuch luxury ski apparel company in Vail, Colo.
Gorsuch founder Dave told the Vail Daily, “I believe my father and his grandfather were second cousins,” Dave Gorsuch said. “We’re related, but I’m not sure how.”
Despite the distant relation in the lineage, sharing a name is enough to prompt curious shoppers to bombard the Gorsuch ski store in Vail with a flurry of questions. An employee at the store, Christine, told Yahoo Style, “All of our customers are inquiring about it.” While this boost in interest only a few hours after the announcement is to be expected, it’s likely the prodding will continue if Judge Gorsuch is confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Christine said that the Gorsuch family is traveling in Europe for apparel-buying shows for at least another week and wasn’t available to comment on the news.

The Gorsuch apparel company is private, so information about its sales or size is not disclosed publicly. But the company’s reach in the country’s biggest ski markets is vast, with five stores in major Colorado and Utah skiing towns, including Aspen and Park City. Celebrities such as Paris Hilton have been photographed wearing Gorsuch while in Aspen. Aside from skiwear, the company also sells home goods.
Given the family connection, albeit a distant one, it only seems fitting that Judge Gorsuch found out about Scalia’s death while, of all things, skiing.
