Trump's 2020 Video Got Taken Down by Warner Bros. Because It Used the 'Dark Knight Rises' Score
On Tuesday, among his other rants and rambles, President Donald Trump posted a video of himself to Twitter. The video was a jumble of images and clips, including footage from Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing as well as a headline from a Fox News story that read: "Mueller report summary released, showing no proof Trump team colluded with Russia." There were also many photos of Trump, including ones with him and North Korea's Kim Jong Un, and text that read: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they call you racist."
The whole thing seemed to be part of his 2020 reelection campaign, as it later read: "Your vote proved them all wrong. Trump the great victory. 2020." (There were also images of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Rosie O'Donnell, Bryan Cranston, and Amy Schumer, if you want to try and dissect that.)
But unfortunately, you can't watch this remarkable feat of video journalism on Trump's Twitter anymore. Why? Because it got taken down for copyright infringement.
According to BuzzFeed News, Warner Bros. Pictures filed a copyright infringement complaint because the video featured part of the score from the film The Dark Knight Rises, specifically Hans Zimmer’s song "Why Do We Fall?"
A Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement, "The use of Warner Bros.’ score from The Dark Knight Rises in the campaign video was unauthorized. We are working through the appropriate legal channels to have it removed."
And while it's no longer playing on Trump's official Twitter, the real kicker is learning that the video didn't even come from the Trump campaign in the first place. Instead, BuzzFeed News reports that the video appears to be lifted from a YouTube video that was posted to Reddit. (The YouTube video has also been taken down on copyright grounds.)
So just to keep track of the 2020 election so far, it's Hollywood: 100, Trump: 0.
