Twin sisters celebrate turning 90 with adorable dance that will definitely make you smile
A video of twin sisters celebrating their 90th birthday while dancing to Stevie Wonder is bringing joy to Facebook.
Versibe Williams and Vertibe Atherton of St. Louis, Mo., are inseparable — they both had long careers as nurses; they vacation together; and their milestone birthdays are always a huge affair. For their 90th birthday on July 21, their family threw a party at a retirement home where Vertibe’s daughter lives — and the women gave a superb dance performance to Stevie Wonder’s rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
On Sunday, Versibe’s youngest daughter, Michelle Wright Folarin, shared a Facebook video of the sisters holding hands and shaking their hips in unison. “They dance better than I do — sometimes I can’t keep up,” Wright Folarin, 52, a teaching assistant, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “They love being around people, and they’re healthy and active.”
The dance routine was viewed by more than 1.6 million people and got 15K reactions and 27K shares. Facebook named the pair “the real Golden Girls” and called their birthday a “blessing.”
The sisters are so close that Versibe, who is single and lives with Wright Folarin, often tags along with Vertibe and her husband of 60 years on vacation. “They are a package deal — we call them the ‘Three Musketeers,'” says Wright Folarin. “For their 52nd birthday, the three of them went to Puerto Rico.”
Williams and Atherton both served as nurses, first in a hospital and later on private duty. In 1996, Williams retired from nursing and worked in customer service for Trans States Airlines. “I have a thick folder with 50 letters of recommendation,” Williams tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
As young girls, the sisters enjoyed singing duets, and they were members of the St. Louis Gospel Choral Union for 25 years. “Vertibe is the quieter, laid-back sister but can be a little feisty at times,” says Wright Folarin. “However, Versibe is the more aggressive of the two — or, as she says, ‘the fast one!'” She says her mom and aunt seldom argue. “They say what they have to say and just keep it moving.”
According to Wright Folarin, milestone birthdays are important in her family, and the sisters’ 100th birthday looms. “I have to pray on that one,” she says. “God willing, we will be there.”
