Identical twin sisters marry identical twin brothers in joint ceremony — and they're not the first
Here’s something you don’t hear about every day: Identical twin sisters recently married identical twin brothers in a joint ceremony in Twinsburg, Ohio. The ceremony was officiated by identical twin ministers, naturally.
The sisters, Brittany and Briana Deane, married brothers Josh and Jeremy Salyers at the Twins Day Festival, where the couples met a year ago, People reports.
The couples first made headlines in February, when the brothers proposed to the sisters at the same time. “We have done so much in life together. We’ve gone through … having twin loves of our lives and to accept their marriage proposal at the same time made it that much more special,” Brittany told Good Morning America at the time. “We’ve always known our whole life if we were going to be married that it was going to be with twins,” Jeremy Salyers said.
Now, Briana tells People that her wedding has “really been a fairy tale come true. Marrying twins is something that’s very important to us. Even when we were little girls I can remember being in kindergarten, knowing that that is what we saw for ourselves.”
Brittany says that she knew the odds she and her sister would fall in love with identical twin brothers were “incredibly scarce. The stars had to align for our dreams to come true. I get to marry the man of my dreams and at the same time I get to look over next to me and see my twin sister marrying the man of her dreams,” she said.
The sisters say they’ve always enjoyed dressing alike and double-dating, and consider themselves “two halves of a whole.” They and their new husbands plan to live in the same house and raise their children together.
It seems highly unlikely that identical twins would meet and fall in love with other identical twins, but this has happened before. Identical twins Darlene and Diane Nettemeier married identical twins Craig and Mark Sanders in a double wedding in 1999, per Today. Craig and Diane eventually had identical twin boys — two of the four’s total of five children.
In 2014, identical twin sisters Teyolla and Keyolla Loux married identical twin brothers Eric and Shawn Crow in a double wedding that followed a double proposal. “ My only sadness was that Tee couldn’t watch me get married, because she was waiting outside the door, preparing to get hitched herself,” Keyolla told Friday magazine.

Just this weekend, identical twin sisters Krissie and Kassie Bevier were set to marry identical twins Zack and Nick Lewan. Although the couples had two separate ceremonies, they planned to share a wedding reception and then move into the same two-bedroom apartment together, the Daily Mail reports.
There are some factors of attraction that make this plausible. Some amount of attraction is in your DNA, which makes it easy to see on some level how this could happen, licensed clinical psychologist John Mayer, author of Family Fit: Find Your Balance in Life, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. However, environmental influences also play a big role, he says.
“By and large, people often do choose other people that are from their environment and have similar attributes to them,” licensed clinical psychologist Ramani Durvasula, author of Should I Stay or Should I Go? Surviving a Relationship With a Narcissist, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Given that two twins who are genetically identical and grew up in the same home had almost identical nature and nurture, they may make similar choices in a partner.”
It also seems that both sets of twins are really into their twinness, which could have been reinforced by their family or social environment. That could make being a twin a part of their identity and increase the odds that they would marry similar people, Durvasula says. However, she stresses, that usually means that they both may be attracted to people with similar physical features and personalities; marrying other identical twins isn’t typical.
The twins’ double wedding will air on TLC in 2019.
