Twitter erupts over Mass. mayor's Sam Adams boycott after co-founder thanks Trump
Drinking your first Samuel Adams beer is a coming-of-age moment where I’m from — it means you’ve matured beyond pouring orange juice into a 40-ounce bottle of Olde English malt liquor in an attempt to make it taste like a Blue Moon. Drinking a Sam Adams not only meant you were a patriot, but it also said, “Hey, world. I can finally afford a six-pack and convinced an older cousin to buy it for me.”
The real Samuel Adams was a major opponent of the British Parliament’s effort to tax the American colonies without their consent. Coincidentally, Jim Koch, the co-founder of the company that makes Samuel Adams beer, recently dined with President Trump and thanked him for his corporate tax-cut plans.
Because of that, Joseph Curtatone, the mayor of Somerville, Mass., has vowed never to drink another Sam Adams beer.
I will never drink Sam Adam's beer again! https://t.co/UCywb9I7xE

The mayor of Somerville, a city located just northwest of Boston, has disagreed with Trump’s policies in the past. He voiced his displeasure with President Trump’s immigration policy in January 2017. He followed up his tweet about never drinking the lager again by calling out Jim Koch.
Hey Jim Koch! While you were thanking Trump for your tax break, did you happen to express any concern for the families separated under his cruel and inhumane immigration enforcement policy? @SamuelAdamsBeer https://t.co/UCywb9I7xE

“We need to hold these complicit profiteers of Trump’s white nationalist agenda accountable!” Curtatone wrote.
Naturally, Twitter users were divided, yet there was a common theme ringing out — who still drinks Sam Adams?
But for real, who drinks Sam Adams beer nowadays anyhow? 🤔

Who drinks Sam Adams anymore? pic.twitter.com/wgqJGEPm0z

Of course! No real Bostonian drinks Sam Adam anyway!

Meanwhile, supporters of Trump (or maybe people just supporting their favorite beer?) promised that they would be making up for whatever Mayor Curtatone doesn’t drink.
Don't worry, I will make up for your absence, Sam Adams is the only beer I will drink from this day forward!

This will just make me drink more Sam Adams. I left Boston for the sanity of New Orleans. But I will definitely drink Sam Adams.

Thx for the info. I will now drink Sam Adams more often. Great company and leadership.

Others, however, pledged alongside Mayor Curtatone to never sip a product from the Boston-based brewery again.
My husband is a Sam Adams drinker, but in light of this I will make sure he no longer is.

Damn it! Guess I’ve had my last Sam Adams… https://t.co/qLJgT2ijeL

Used to like Sam Adams but I’m switching beers. Trump’s tax cuts may help small brewers like you but they’re a disaster for everyone else. The deficit is exploding, interest rates are rising, and the real wages are falling. https://t.co/y2CEIsnnyi

What has the world come to where we can’t even enjoy getting blackout drunk anymore?
