Twitter falls in love with single dad who asks teen daughter for fashion advice

Updated

When Carli Saville, 19, tweeted photos of her dad Jeff trying on outfits for a date, she never thought he would go viral. But nearly 6k retweets, and 167 thousand likes later, the Texas dad is in high demand. “I’m getting asked out a lot,” Jeff tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

On July 6th, Carli Saville, 19, of Friendswood, Texas posted a series of text messages from Jeff, seeking advice on what to wear for his upcoming date. “Life with a single dad, asking for advice on dad outfits,” she wrote. “My heart.”

The photos show Jeff trying on two different shirts, both tucked in and hanging loose, with him texting, “Hello” when his daughter presumably takes too long to reply.

Social media immediately fell in love with Jeff, tweeting, “He is Twitter’s single dad now, protect him at all costs” and “Man deserves a queen.” People also responded with photos of their moms (“My momma needs a man,” one wrote) and adorable tales about their single dads.

When someone wrote, “Dinner on us if he brings a date,” Carli shared, “Considering he got stood up I’m sure he’ll be glad to hear it!!”

However, Carli didn’t tell her dad that his fashion consult wasn’t private. “I didn’t want him to be sad and mad in the same night — I thought he might be embarrassed and a little upset but he took it lightly,” Carli tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “He was excited watching the tweet get more and more attention.”

“I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me,’” Jeff tells Yahoo Lifestyle of his reaction when Carli revealed her tweet. “I didn’t even have a Twitter account, I didn’t even know what Twitter was.”

Jeff, who on his newly-minted Twitter bio says, “loving dad raising 4 beautiful girls in Christ,” thinks his fame might be fate.

“I feel like God has given me something of a platform, in a crazy kind of way, to deliver a message about how special a relationship is,” Jeff tells Yahoo. “I know enough from being divorced and I know where I need to be now in my life. I have 30 or 40 years left, and if I’m lucky, I want to get them right.”

People all over the world, including from Europe and Australia, now have crushes on Jeff. Some are sending him and Carlie photos of their single moms. “I’m being asked out a lot,” Jeff says. “But I’m very private about that.”

“It’s unusual. It’s fun. It’s amazing,” he adds. “I don’t know what to say.” In fact, when Jeff walked into a local restaurant on Friday night, the establishment erupted in applause. “I nearly fell to my knees,” he says.

As for Carli, she is excited for her father’s moment in the spotlight. “I hope it brings him a soulmate and someone that can bring him happiness for a lifetime,” she tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “He deserves it more than anyone I know!”
