Sep. 26—Two men were arrested last week and charged with first-degree burglary after they broke into a home in Piedmont and assaulted a juvenile victim, Piedmont police say.

Kyle Wyatt Martin, 18, of Fort Payne, and Jordan Glenn Buttram, 25, of Piedmont have been charged with burglary after an investigation identified them as suspects in an assault that took place Sept. 17 on Foothills Drive in Piedmont, according to a recent news release.

According to the release, the victim called a friend after the assault took place, who picked the victim up and drove to a local grocery store where they found an officer. The victim reported to the officer that two men kicked the door down and forced entry into the Foothills Drive home, according to Piedmont police Chief Nathan Johnson.

Johnson said it was reported that Martin struck the victim with a rifle, knocking the person to the ground. Buttram then reportedly threatened the victim with a handgun, and the two suspects destroyed some personal property at the home. Martin and Buttram then reportedly struck the victim several times, assaulting the person while still on the ground.

Johnson said to his knowledge, the victim did not seek medical attention following the assault.

Piedmont Police Department apprehended Martin on Friday, Sept. 22. The 7th Judicial Circuit Major Crimes Unit and Gadsden police arrested Buttram as he arrived at his place of work on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Piedmont police are investigating the incident and thanked the 7th Judicial Circuit Major Crimes Unit and U.S. Marshal Service for assisting in the investigation.
