Two-day Civil War camp and more coming up at Manitowoc County Historical Society in August

MANITOWOC – Here’s what’s happening at the Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, in August:

  • Camp Pinecrest: Civil War: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8. Go beyond the pages of history books to bring local Civil War-era stories to life during this two-day camp. The camp will consist of activities that relate to the American Civil War, both in battle and on the home front. Advanced registration is required.

  • Create-Connect: Blacksmithing — The Great Outdoors: Noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 8. Students will have the chance to make one of the following outdoor projects: hoof pick, lantern/plant hooks or fire pit poker. Advanced registration is required.

  • Hometown History Expo: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10. Connect with local small museums, town historians, historical societies and genealogy groups. Included in the cost of general museum admission.

  • Create-Connect: Blacksmithing — Items for the Home: Noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 17. Students can make at least two of the following decorative projects for the home: dinner triangle, candleholders, hooks or fire pit poker. Advanced registration is required.

  • Evergreen Cemetery (Manitowoc) Walking Tour: 3-6 p.m. Aug. 21. 90-minute walking tour of Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc will bring to life the interesting and often unknown stories of souls interred there. Advanced registration is required.

  • Visit the museum: Summer hours run through the end of September with open hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
