Two Retired Ladies Live Their Dreams in These Cozy Forest Homes
While it looks like it belongs in the Shire, this enchanting fairytale home actually exists in Japan. Named "Jikka," the home is made up of five small hut-like structures joined together to form a single house. Japanese architect Issei Suma says he designed Jikka to be "something as unembellished as a primitive hut and something as holy as a chapel."
Located at the top of a mountain ridge in Shizuoka prefecture, the hut-like structures were built at different heights to bring to mind the surrounding mountains.
So who are the lucky people who get to live in this amazing home? After the house was finished in 2015, two women in their 60s-a social worker and a cook-moved in with hopes of using it to serve the elderly in their community. The two women not only deliver homemade meals to elderly, but also open up their home to the public every afternoon to serve lunch from 12-4pm. There is also a guest room in the house with a nautilus-shaped bathtub (that's wheelchair friendly!) for any elderly or disabled person who needs nursing care.
