Tyson recalls 36,000 pounds of chicken nuggets that may have been contaminated with rubber

Seven months after recalling frozen breaded chicken tenderloins over concerns that they had been contaminated with plastic, Tyson has issued an alert on its chicken nuggets.

A statement issued by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service says 36,420 pounds of Tyson’s chicken nuggets may have been contaminated with rubber.

The recall of Tyson White Meat Panko Chicken Nuggets — with packages listing a “best if used by” date of Nov. 26, 2019 — was prompted after customers complained of “extraneous material,” i.e., the rubber. No adverse reactions have been confirmed, though the health risk is listed as “high.”

According to a statement by Tyson, the affected packages were “shipped to club store distribution centers in Arizona, California, Illinois, New Jersey and Utah.”

Consumers should look for the case code 3308SDL03 marked on five-pound bags of the nuggets and discard or return them to the place of purchase.

It has been a bad month for chicken nuggets, with Perdue Foods recalling its gluten-free chicken nuggets in mid-January because of wood contamination. And this week, its Fun Shapes Chicken Breast Nuggets were recalled because of misbranding and the undeclared inclusion of milk, an allergen.

The latest recall has stirred some strong reactions — and jokes — on Twitter.
