Uh, Turns Out Bobby Flay Wanted Wild Amounts of Money to Stay with Food Network
Look, did we expected Food Network drama to be a topic of conversation in this, our year 2021? No. But here we are! Because celebrity chef Bobby Flay is up and leaving the network after a gazillion (aka 27) years, and there's a ton of speculation about why. And the answer is pretty basic: he reportedly wanted more money.
According to People, Bobby was hoping for a deal that would be higher than Guy Fieri's $80 million contract—which, lol.
"Bobby wanted a contract in the ballpark of $100 million," a source explained, adding that Bobby and Guy's contracts are "not apples to apples," and that "Guy has a three-year deal" and that "The terms of what Bobby was looking for were gravely different than just cash. The terms were longer, the scope of work was different and thus the dollars were different. It's not just $80 million to $100 million."
Food Network was unwilling to play ball, and as the source puts it, "The two sides were just way too far apart. It became clear the two could not and would not be able to come to terms and so the network decided to move forward without him. Regardless, it was really much more amicable than you'd think. It was strictly business."
Getting huge "it's not business, it's personal" vibes from this, and frankly I never expected this kind of energy from Food Network but I'm here for it.
