Um, Everyone in the Royal Family Is Moving to a New House
Queen Elizabeth is making plans for her son Prince Charles’s eventual ascension to the throne, and apparently on top of Camilla getting a “queen consort” title, literally everyone in the royal family is swapping houses.
First up is Charles, who, according to a Daily Mail source, is expected to move from Clarence House into Buckingham Palace due to being “firmly of the view that it’s the visible symbol of the monarchy in the nation’s capital and therefore must be his home.”
“The Prince of Wales will not move into Buckingham Palace before he is king. But when he is, he absolutely will,” a source explained. “Just like the Queen, it will effectively be in the ‘flat above the shop.’ He feels it is right, just as the Queen does, to work out of Buckingham Palace. The palace will still be a working and entertaining hub and will also still be open to visitors. It is a hugely important tourist attraction. But the prince can still live there at the same time, much like he does at Highgrove, which is also open to the public.”
What’s going to happen to Clarence House, you ask? Per the Daily Mail, “It is likely to be turned into a work or entertaining hub—with a view to one of the Cambridges’ children living there in the future.”
So, what about Prince William and Kate Middleton? They’ll keep apartment 1A at Kensington Palace but are also set to inherit Windsor Castle. Like…the entire thing. Meanwhile, it is “likely” that their current country home, Anmer Hall, “will revert to the Queen or her heir,” who would rent it out.
The couple has already been looking at a move to Windsor and is considering Frogmore House (not to be confused with Frogmore Cottage, which belongs to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) and Fort Belvedere for now. Stay tuned for more updates!
