Um, Is Meghan Getting Ready to Relaunch Her Lifestyle Blog, ‘The Tig’?
Anyone still mourning the death of Meghan Markle’s lifestyle blog, The Tig, might be able to put their tissues away soon because it *sure looks like* we’re on the verge of a resurrection.
For anyone who’s reacting with a big Huh? rn, let’s take a quick sec to flash back to before Meghan lived out her royal love story/upended her entire life to marry Prince Harry. In 2017, Meghan was working as an actor and moonlighting as a budding lifestyle guru, penning a blog called The Tig, which was named in honor of her fave wine, Tiganello, and more specifically what said wine represents for her.
“Several years ago, I had a sip of wine called Tignanello (pronounced ‘Teen-ya-nello’). But let’s be real—in the states, most people said ‘Tig-na-nello’…or just plain old ‘Tig,’” she explained on the site’s About Me page back in the day. “So there I am, with very minimal wine knowledge, and I take a sip of this wine. It wasn’t just red or white—suddenly I understood what people meant by the body, legs, structure of wine. It was an aha moment at its finest. For me, it became a ‘Tig’ moment—a moment of getting it. From that point on, any new awareness, any new discovery or ‘Ohhhhh, I get it!’ moment was a ‘Tig’ moment.”
The site was live from 2014 until 2017, but Meg shut it down ahead of her royal wedding in 2018. Now, fast-forward back to 2022 and it looks like she might be prepping for The Tig 2.0. The Sun is reporting that Meghan has an application to trademark “The Tig” for various uses that’s currently “under examination” by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). According to the Daily Mail, Meghan initially submitted the application a year and a half ago, but the USPTO rejected it, reportedly because the “description of the website was ‘too broad’—and the paperwork was unsigned.”
Apparently, Meghan enlisted the help of a new lawyer and took another pass at the application, which, according to the Daily Mail, now specifies five areas in which Meghan wants to trademark the use of “The Tig.” And what are those five areas, you ask? Travel, interior design (which the application seems to specify includes “environmentally conscious living”), food preparation (which includes cooking and recipes, apparently), health and wellness, and “personal relationships” (which, according to the Daily Mail’s report about the application, encompasses everything “fashion and personal lifestyle”).
Of course, until/unless that trademark application status moves from “under examination” to “approved,” we probably won’t see any official comment on a possible Tig revival, so it’s officially a waiting game for now.
