United Airlines flight attendant was allegedly drunk, cursed during boarding announcements

Being a flight attendant can be a pretty stressful job. But that’s no excuse for what apparently happened on a recent United Airlines flight. A flight attendant reportedly displayed “erratic behavior,” the New York Daily News reported, and one passenger, Erika Gorman, called the flight attendant “belligerent” in a tweet. The flight, Trans States Flight 4689, was traveling from Denver to Williston, N.D., on Thursday.

Gorman’s tweet appears to have been deleted, though United’s response to Gorman is still available on Twitter. According to the New York Daily News, Gorman tweeted her suspicion that the flight attendant was drunk, adding that she reported the attendant’s behavior to the cockpit. “Drunk and disorderly — belligerent flight attendant. Boarding announcements were ‘if your seatbelt isn’t tight, you f^*%ed up,’” Gorman’s tweet reportedly read.

CBS News reports that Gorman also shared photos of the flight attendant in an apparent confrontation with a passenger. According to the outlet, police met the plane when it landed in Williston. Associated Press reports that the police “determined that the person was drunk and forwarded the investigation to the FBI.”

United issued a statement about the flight on Thursday, saying that it was “aware of a concerning incident involving a flight attendant serving on our regional service provider Trans States Airlines Flight 4689,” CBS notes. United also told the New York Daily News in a statement that it has “compensated all customers aboard the flight.”

According to CBS, the flight attendant in question is being “held out of service.” United added in its statement to the New York Daily News that “the safety of our customers and crew aboard all United and Trans States flights is a top priority.” Still, that didn’t stop people from tweeting about the reported incident, which some saw as only the latest controversy involving United Airlines.

Back in March, a dog died on a United Airlines flight after a flight attendant allegedly forced its owner to put it in an overhead bin. The same month, United also accidentally sent a Kansas family’s dog to Japan. The family was flying from Oregon to Kansas City, and their pet was apparently mixed up with another dog. And in April 2017, a giant rabbit died after a United Airlines flight.

Most disturbing, of course, was the incident of a doctor who was dragged off a United Airlines flight last April. Fortunately, it seems that no one was hurt during this week’s incident — but it’s not great news, considering United’s recent track record.
