United passengers claim they were forced to sit in vomit-covered seats
A husband and wife traveling on a recent United Airlines flight claim that they were forced to sit in a vomit-covered seat and, upon asking it be cleaned, were told they were "going to be the reason this flight is delayed."
Sam Trail and his wife were heading home onboard United Flight 2057 from Vancouver to Houston on Sunday when they realized his seat, the floor, and the seat back in front of him was covered in vomit.
With passengers streaming onto the plane, they had no other choice but to sit in the soiled seats, holding their luggage against them in an attempt to avoid touching the throw-up.
"They kept boarding the people and so we couldn't move. We basically had our luggage in our laps trying to avoid contact with the vomit," Trail told Click2Houston.
Trail alerted crew members to the less than ideal flying condition.
“I was told, ‘Oh, yeah, we can get a cleaning crew, but you’re going to be the reason this flight is delayed,'” Trail told the station.
Trail alleges that a flight attendant gave him paper towels before a cleaner boarded the plane with a spray bottle and towel. The passenger added that the seats were still not thoroughly cleaned by the cabin cleaner, and that vomit remained in his seating area.
“There’s gotta be some limitations,” Trail told Click2Houston. “I mean you have to provide a sanitary environment, and there should be an apology.”
United Airlines provided Yahoo Lifestyle with the following statement: "As soon as this matter was brought to our crew’s attention, they called cabin cleaners who quickly arrived to clean the seats and the flight departed less than five minutes after its scheduled time. Cabin cleanliness is an important part of our customer’s journey, and we have reached out to our customers to discuss this experience with them directly. "
