The NBC family drama This Is Us had fans hooked from the first episode when they tied all the flashback and flash-forward storylines together. Now a multitude of loyal fans grab their tissue boxes weekly to see how the Big 3 grew up and how the Pearson family grew and changed over the years. Each character on the show has some flaws, but everyone’s human, right? But their imperfections only make them more realistic and engaging. And seeing Jack struggle to deal with his time in the war, and Kate’s battle with her weight and how it affected her desire to become a mother, made these characters feel like part of everyone’s family and not just the Pearson clan. If you're eagerly awaiting season 5, you're in luck! NBC recently announced that This Is Us will be returning with a 2-hour episode on November 10.
And while mom always claimed she didn’t have a favorite kid and she loved them all equally, there are members of the Pearson family who are just a little bit more lovable than others.
18. Cassidy
This war veteran helped Kevin through his tough spot with his uncle… but then kind of fizzled. Happy her life is back together, but she’s basically forgettable.
17. Nick Pearson
The curmudgeonly Uncle Nicky was responsible for the death of a young man in Vietnam, but then he pretended to be dead for years, even after the tragic death of his brother. He’s battling his demons, but he could be a bit nicer to his niece and nephews who are desperate for a connection to their father.
16. Toby Damon
He seems like the good guy husband, but he is also super selfish, lies, and generally makes poor life choices. He made Kate’s weight loss camp all about him, lied about his medication, and behaved like a jerk when he found out that his son was blind. He also constantly seems put out by the fact that he’s outside of the Pearson clique, and uses that as an excuse. Toby may have some redeemable qualities, but he'll never be able to fill Jack Pearson's footsteps.
15. Jack Pearson Damon
He only showed up at the tail end of this most recent season as Toby and Kate’s son. So while he’s a cherubic infant and a captivating rock star, the show has only scratched the surface of Jack. If he’s anything like his namesake, he will move up this list quickly.
14. Madison
Who wouldn’t hate the annoying skinny girl in an overeaters group? But despite her initial impression, she’s proven to be a super loyal friend. And now she’s going to be mom of Kevin’s baby, so she’s not going anywhere soon.
13. Sophie
Kevin’s high school sweetheart dealt with A LOT of his nonsense, but while she’s clearly got a soft spot for her former beau, she’s moved on with her life.
12. Dr. Katowski
Never has there been a more involved OB/GYN than Dr. K. He not only delivered Jack and Rebecca’s children, he’s acted as a bit of a life coach for them when they’ve been overwhelmed.
11. Miguel Rivas
Despite the fact that he harbored feelings for Rebecca long before his BFF died tragically, Miguel has proven to be a loyal and solid husband.
10. Annie Pearson
Plucky and adorable, this pint-sized Pearson is wise beyond her years. Her relationship with Randall’s dad William was the best.
9. Kevin Pearson
As Kevin becomes more of an adult (finally!), appreciation for this character has grown as well. He’s an idiot and an addict, but on the path to redemption with his new family and his thoughtful attempts to take care of his mom.
8. Deja
She’s a lucky girl that got plucked out of the terrible situation she was in and found herself being nurtured by Randall and Beth, but she’s been dealt a difficult lot in life and some of her questionable decisions remind us she’s still a teenager.
7. Tess Pearson
Seeing Tess come out to her parents was so genuine and spot-on. Of course, being raised by the devoted Beth and Randall meant she never really had to worry too much, but she’s going through a lot of teenage struggles in addition to being uprooted to a new city in the middle of high school.
6. Rebecca Pearson
Parenting the Big 3 solo was no easy feat, especially as teenagers! And she put her own dreams on hold many times for her three kids, which makes her a pretty selfless mom. And while she made mistakes (she really should have told Randall about William), watching her mind falter is heartbreaking.
5. Kate Pearson Damon
Sweet and good-hearted, Katie Girl made some not-so-great choices in her life. Her diet battle is super-relatable and humanizing and her parenting skills are on-point. She’s got the best parts of both her mom and dad in her.
4. William Hill
A brief and wondrous light on the This is Us. While Randall’s drug addicted birth dad might have been absent for most of his son’s life, the time they spent together was really special. His relationships with his grandchildren, Beth and his caring partner Jesse made his passing all that more difficult to deal with.
3. Randall Pearson
He’s got this constant attitude that he’s right, and is convinced that his path is the right one. As his wife Beth once put it, he always takes the good chips and leaves the broken ones for her. These egotistical traits should put him lower on the list, but he’s also deeply loving and caring, an amazing father, and a good son, when he’s not trying to force his mother into a clinical trial she doesn’t want.
2. Beth Pearson
She may not have known exactly what she was getting when she married into the Pearson clan, but she’s one of the most put-together and stable characters on this show. She’s put her dreams on hold a lot in order to support her husband and family, but she’s got heart, brains, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
1. Jack Pearson
He’s romantic and proud and his sweeping gestures to woo Rebecca won the hearts of a lot of fans. Plus, he’s just the best dad, and audiences around the world cursed Crock-Pots and cried their eyes out when he ran back into that fire to rescue their dog and lost his life afterwards. He saved the family dog! The man is a hero.
