MANITOWOC – Get some deals on used books and other items during the Manitowoc Public Library’s Used Book Sale this week.

Here’s everything happening at the library, 707 Quay St. For more information, call 920-686-3010 or visit manitowoclibrary.org.

Happening this week at Manitowoc Public Library:

  • Friends of Manitowoc Public Library Used Book Sale — June 27-29 in the second-floor Balkansky Community Room. Hours are noon to 7:30 p.m. June 27, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 28 and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 29 when stuff-a-bag is $4. Only cash or local checks accepted. An ATM is on the library’s first floor.

  • Drop-In Chess Club — 6-7:30 p.m. July 3. All abilities and ages (6 years and older) are welcome, but no formal instruction will be offered. Boards are provided and library materials are available for further learning. No registration required.

  • Library closed in observance of Independence Day — July 4. The library will be closed July 4 and resume its regular hours at 9 a.m. July 5.

Register for Brew ’N Bee IV:

  • Brew ’N Bee IV: You Can’t Spell “Bee” Without “B” — Registration is open now for the fourth annual orthographic scrum that will take place at PetSkull Brewing Company’s Outdoor Beer Garden from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24. A $20 participation fee will be associated with the Brew ’N Bee, and registration is required at www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/brew-n-bee-4.

Story times:

  • Baby Storytime — 9:30 a.m. June 27 and July 3. Baby Storytime is 20 minutes of stories, songs, rhymes, bounces, parachute activities and bubbles followed by 20 minutes of playtime. Recommended for developmental ages 0-2 and siblings are welcome. Registration is not required.

  • Preschool Storytime — 10:30 a.m. June 27 and July 3. Join in singing, talking, reading, creating and playing at this inclusive story time for families with preschoolers. Recommended for developmental ages 2-5 and siblings are welcome. Registration is not required.

Ongoing events and programs:

  • Summer Reading Program — Runs through Aug. 10. Read or be read to a total of 30 days to complete the program and earn weekly prizes just by reading. Register on the Beanstack app or pick up a paper tracker at the library. Free and for all ages. People will have until Aug. 17 to pick up prizes, while supplies last.

  • “American Farmer: A Photo-Portrait Exhibition” — On view through Oct. 20 on the library’s first floor. The traveling “American Farmer” exhibit celebrates the living spirit of our heartland through the faces and voices of the people who keep it alive. It features 45 full-color and black-and-white portraits and interviews with farmers across the United States by photographer Paul Mobley.

  • Employment and career assistance — Department of Workforce Development staff provide on-site services in MPL’s Franklin Street Room for both employment assistance and career counseling between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. For drop-in employment assistance, DWD staff will provide onsite services, including resume writing, assistance with online applications, assistance registering in Job Center of Wisconsin, and more, and no is appointment needed.
