Vanessa Carlton Gives Birth to a Girl!

Update (1/15/15): This post was updated with Carlton's baby name reveal and new Instagram photo.

It's no ordinary day for Vanessa Carlton! The singer-songwriter -- best known for her song, "A Thousand Miles" -- gave birth to a daughter, named Sidney Aoibheann, on Tuesday. This is the first child for her and husband John McCauley of the band Deer Tick. Thee two musicians took to social media (like other celebs!) to share their joyous news.

Carlton shared baby birth announcements on Instagram and Twitter, and McCauley also posted a #selfie with their newborn.

In June, Carlton also took to Twitter and Facebook to share news about her (second) pregnancy, almost a year after being diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. (She underwent a difficult surgery to remove the embryo, which had settled in her fallopian tube and could not grow.) Carlton shared her new album would be delayed due to "baby on board," and posted a sweet shot of her growing baby bump.

Thanks for all the sweet wishes on our daughter. She's the quiet observer. We are in for it.
