Following the Kansas City Chiefs' AFC victory against the Baltimore Ravens at Sunday's NFL game, a flurry of memes and fan reactions have popped up on social media comparing the team's superstar tight end, Travis Kelce, and his new girlfriend Taylor Swift, to a variety of pop culture couples—one being High School Musical's Troy Bolton, played by Zac Efron, and Vanessa Hudgens' Gabriella Montez.
If you know anything about the cult Disney Channel fan-favorite TV movie, you know that Troy and Gabriella were the popular "it" couple of the school, with the former being the star of the basketball team, and the latter being a more reserved, super smart student. They eventually end up connecting due to their shared love of singing, dancing, and performing on stage.
Ironically, the two even turned their on-screen love into a real life relationship, dating from 2005 to 2010 before going their separate ways. (For now, Efron is reportedly single, while Hudgens recently tied the knot with MLB player Cole Tucker.)
"The chiefs game and the golden globes being within hours of each other reminds me when Troy and Gabriella had the basketball game and the academic decathlon at the same time as the audition for the school musical," one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while another agreed, "Taylor having a concert across the world the same day as travis is playing in the superbowl [sic] is so high school musical coded you can’t even make this up."
Some even added screenshot images of the two couples side-by-side, with one social media user writing, "I think I've seen this film before."

After catching wind of the online banter, Hudgens responded to the comparisons that have been circulating, expressing how she feels about her former character being likened to the "Lavender Haze" singer amid the highly-publicized romance.
The 35-year-old kept it short and sweet, writing, “Hilarious,” in the comment section of a post on Entertainment Tonight's Instagram.
Hudgens, for her part, certainly had many less words than most while speaking on the pop singer's romance with the pro footballer.
Recently, a slew of celebs have offered their own opinions on arguably the most-talked-about couple of the new year so far, including Stephen A. Smith, J.J. Watt, Shannon Sharpe, and David Letterman, among several others.
