A Vegan Woman Is Suing Her Neighbors For Barbecuing Fish In Their Backyard
A vegan woman from Australia is suing her neighbors for grilling meat and fish in their backyards.
She took her case all the way to the Supreme Court, but did not win.
Social media users are taking sides on the matter on Twitter.
Vegans are usually pretty committed to their diet, but one vegan in Perth, Australia, is taking her no-meat stance to the next level: She's so pissed off that her neighbors keep grilling fish in their backyard that she’s taking them to the Supreme Court over it.
Cilla Carden tells Australia’s 9News that she’s over her neighbors cooking meat near her home. "They've put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish. I can't enjoy my backyard, I can't go out there,” she said.
That’s not all: Carden says she’s also ticked that her neighbors smoke (which wafts into her yard) and that they have kids who play with basketballs. "It's been devastating, it's been turmoil, it's been unrest, I haven't been able to sleep," she said.
But her neighbors are pushing back. One invited 9News into his backyard to show that he removed his grill and told his children to stop playing basketball. Still, Carden won't back down: "It's deliberate, that's what I told the courts, it’s deliberate,” she said.
BTW: People are having a field day with this on Twitter.
Unfortunately for Carden, the courts haven’t agreed with her. Both a Supreme Court judge and the State Administrative Tribunal have sided with her neighbors and dismissed her case. Carden tried to appeal those decisions but those have been refused, too.
She’s not giving up, though. Carden says she plans to fight her neighbors in court again soon.
