Victorville offers cash prizes for proper sorting of recyclables

Victorville residents are being offered a chance to win $100 for properly sorting their recyclables as the city kicks off its "The Right Stuff Curbside Recycling Contest."

Starting Monday, a contest participant will be selected every two weeks through September 30, according to Victorville city officials. The contestants waste bins will then be checked.

"Addresses are randomly selected from the Right Stuff entries from all submissions and all three carts: the green organics, blue recycle, and black trash cart, are checked for the 'Right Stuff' in each container," according to a city statement.

"If the contents inside all three containers are sorted correctly, you are declared a winner," the statement said.

Each winner will receive a $100 cash prize, according to Victorville Environmental Programs Manager Dana Armstrong.

"When you separate your organics and recyclables from the trash, everybody wins," the statement added.

The contest is open only to residential customers within the city of Victorville. It's co-sponsored by Burrtec Waste Industries.
