PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Another successful Portland Pride is now in the books as the fight for equality marches forward.
Portland’s LGBTQ2SIA+ community and their allies took to the streets of downtown Portland for the Pride Parade on Sunday. The parade had everything from marching bands to floats. KOIN 6 News was the proud media sponsor of the weekend’s festivities with Emily Burris and Travis Teich hosting Sunday morning’s parade. Alongside the KOIN 6 morning team were drag queens Summer Lynne Seasons and Bolivia Carmichaels to help celebrate the parade attendees.
Pride Parades are meant to celebrate the LGBTQ2SIA+ community and their allies, but the fight for equality continues. Basic Rights Oregon is one of those organizations that have helped provide some of the freedoms the queer community has today. The organization had a booth set up along Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park during the week’s festivities to share their mission. “Our mission is to ensure that all LGBTQ2SIA+ Oregonians experience equality by building a broad and inclusive politically powerful movement, shifting public opinion, and achieving policy victories.”

Equality is not only fought for in the queer community, but the access to health care is another struggle some find difficult to obtain. CareOregon is hoping to help provide easy access to essential healthcare needs for the LGBTQ2SIA+ community. In addition to their mission for health care for everyone, their Pride booth and float were matched with fun games and a show-stopping float.

Portland Pride is a pride celebration without some family fun entrainment and some famous drag queens. In addition to the queens helping the KOIN 6 News team present the parade, two main stages located along Portland’s waterfront hosted the fun-filled drag performances. Everyone from local queens to bands helped set the mood for a fun musical weekend.
