'The View' Co-Hosts Suggest People 'Get a Sense of Humor' While Defending Jo Koy

Several folks have been sounding off on the now-viral joke that Jo Koy made in reference to Taylor Swift's relationship with football star Travis Kelce during the 81st Golden Globes, and now, the ladies of The View are entering the chat.
At the star-studded awards show, where Swift's Eras Tour concert film was nominated in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, Koy's quip that "the big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL" is that "we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift" was met with minimal laughs and an icy glance from the "Lavender Haze" singer, who was visibly unamused at being the butt of the joke over her newfound relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
During the daytime talk show on Monday, Jan. 8, Whoopi Goldberg brought up the situation, noting the obvious fact that it was a "rough room for him."
Although she admitted she "didn't get to see it," leaving her unsure of the specific circumstances, she spoke on behalf of the comedian's talent, saying, "But I do know that he is as good as it gets when it comes to stand-ups [comedy], and it is not an easy gig."
Goldberg added that "these hosting gigs" are "just brutal," saying that they're "hit or miss."
The Sister Act star's remark was well-received, as her co-hosts replied in agreement.

Sara Haines, who shifted the perceived blame from the awards show host onto the crowd, also took the opportunity to speak out and jump to the comic's defense regarding his performance.
“I love Jo Koy and the whole time I was nervous for him because I think he’s so funny. He’s kind, he’s good, all the things,” Haines insisted. “What bothers me more in watching this is, get a sense of humor, because we need to protect these national treasures called our comedians because life needs them. We need to stop binding them in; fencing them in.”
She then added a simple recommendation of what the audience could have done to seem a bit more open and receiving of the host: "Just smile."
The camera panned around the table of panelists, who all shook their heads and cooed in unison, seemingly all on the same page when it came to the topic.

Even self-proclaimed Swiftie Alyssa Farah Griffin weighed in on whether Koy’s comment about the “You Belong With Me” singer was “that bad,” or if it was taken too seriously, in her opinion.
“I was a little surprised,” Griffin admitted of Swift’s humorless reaction to the name-drop. “I thought that was kind of a lay-up… I thought he got very good as the night went on.”
Similarly, Megyn Kelly also recently defended Koy for the pop star-related dig, despite Swifties being up in arms over the comment. During her SiriusXM radio show, the media personality suggested the "Cruel Summer" singer should have been more of a "good sport" in response to the "gentle swipe."
