Viola Davis Has an EGOT Thanks to 2023 Grammy Win — See Her Amazing Speech
It's about time!
Viola Davis is officially in the prestigious EGOT club.
The actress, who already has an Oscar from the Fences film adaptation, two Tonys (one for the Fences stage play and another for King Hedley) and an Emmy for How to Get Away With Murder, took home the 2023 for Best Audiobook, Narration and Storytelling.

Accepting the trophy for the audio version of her memoir Finding Me, Davis exclaimed, "Oh my God ... I wrote this book, I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola. To honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything, it has been such a journey—I just EGOT!"
Davis is one of only 18 entertainers to achieve the coveted EGOT status, joining the ranks of Rita Moreno, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Mel Brooks, Audrey Hepburn, Alan Menken and Tim Rice, among others.

In an interview with the Recording Academy in January 2023, Davis said, “I think that everybody wants their life to mean something. I believe in the Cherokee birth blessing, which is, ‘May you live long enough to know why you were born.’ I do believe that you literally wanna blow a hole through this world in whatever way you can."

“A lot of people don’t know how to do that," she said. "A lot of people haven’t found that thing that they’re passionate about, that they can do. Some have. But we all are looking for that, blowing a hole through this earth before we leave it. I think about that in my work a lot. I really found that thing that I love to do. So I always wanna make it meaningful."
She absolutely has!
