"This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams," Abloh told The New York Times. "And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.”

Abloh is Vuitton’s first Black artistic director, which means he's making history at the luxury fashion house. Furthermore, he's now one of the few Black designers at the top of a French heritage house, save for Olivier Rousteing, the creative director of Balmain, and Ozwald Boateng, who designed for Givenchy menswear from 2003 to 2007.

The Ghanian-American designer will debut his first collection for Vuitton in June at men's fashion week in Paris and replaces Kim Jones, who left Vuitton in January to become the menswear designer for Christian Dior.
