Virgo Season 2023 Is One Wicked Cosmic Hangover
From August 23 to September 22, 2023, the Sun will travel through grounded and practical Virgo, and it's bringing a weird cosmic hangover along with it.
Summer has been a wild and unpredictable ride. Now that Virgo season is upon us, it’s time to clean up the mess the stars left in their wake. Over the next few weeks, your attention will be focused on creating order out of chaos, refining your communication, and learning to live within the nuance. You’ll feel called to review your current situation and see if it provides the security and stability you need. It’s also a great time to take small steps toward a larger goal. Whether you’re considering a brand new start or looking to make subtle changes to your current plans, Virgo season is your time to make it happen.
Of course, you should be warned that Virgo season is much spicer than usual this year. Venus retrograde still has a week left to cause trouble, and it’s pairing up with Mercury retrograde to really complicated things. For better or worse, things are going to get weird before they return to normal again. Whatever that means. The good news is that despite all the melodrama, there’s a chance to become smarter, savvier, and self-actualized on the other side. To navigate the many twists and turns of Virgo season this year, we spoke to Hellenistic astrologer Michel Liu for her insights.
Keep reading to see what Virgo season 2023 has in store for your zodiac sign, plus all the important dates you’ll want to mark on your calendar.
What to Expect During Virgo Season 2023
Virgo season begins when the Sun moves into Virgo on August 23 and lasts until September 22, 2023, when it moves into the romantic and harmonious energy of Libra. During this time, you’ll feel more closely aligned with the energy and traits that diligent and observant Virgo is famous for. Virgo season has long been associated with the end of summer and the start of autumn. So, it makes sense that during the next few weeks, you might feel yourself going through a big transformation of your own. This might feel like a sudden shift from the steam and sultry energy that Leo season usually brings. But after all the theatrics and indulgence – it’s time to get back to the basics.
Mercury Retrograde in Virgo
Virgo season starts on a confusing note, with Mercury retrograde in Virgo from August 23 to September 14, 2023. Mercury is about communication, technology, opinions, reasoning, rationale, and self-expression in all forms. Mercury is in its rulership in the sign of Virgo – which means this retrograde will be the toughest one all year. Retrogrades like to press rewind on your plans and ask you to rethink your current approach. When Mercury stations retrograde in a sign like Virgo, astrologers say it could cause problems with how you get your point across. The things that worked in the past might not during this transit. And being careless with your words could really cost you. So watch your tone!
This Mercury retrograde will be especially difficult because it's separating itself from Mars, the planet of passion and aggression. When Mercury and Mars aspect each other – things are likely to get lost in translation. You might feel frustrated by your inability to connect with people. There's also a chance for heated conversations to turn hostile. Luckily, things will get less tense as Mercury circles back to direct motion, ending on a somewhat positive note. It might feel rough at first, especially when Venus and Mercury are retrograde at the same time, but have no fear. This retrograde is your chance to clear your mind before the Fall Equinox ushers in a new chapter of your life.

Mars in Libra
On August 27, Mars enters Libra where it stays until October 12, 2023. Mars is the planet of action, persistence, confidence, aggression, and drive. Every two months, Mars enters the territory of a new zodiac sign and changes the cosmic energy. When Mars enters Libra on August 27, 2023, expect things to feel a lot more indulgent and lazy. Mars is in detriment in Libra – which means it's in a weakened position. It'll be harder to find inspiration or energy to accomplish even the most basic tasks. Libra's planetary ruler, Venus, will have just finished up a two-and-a-half-month retrograde at this point, and everyone is feeling drained. Doing the bare minimum is probably okay for the first few weeks of Mars in Libra. Just be sure you’re not using it as an excuse to rot away in bed.
Mars in Libra is also known for its passive and conflict-avoidant nature. So during this transit, you might feel indecisive about how to handle certain problems and conflicts. Challenging as it might be, resist the urge to slip back into your people-pleasing ways. "This Mars in Libra transit will push you to make decisions and then stand by them. Mars might struggle in Libra, but you need to remember that Mars thrives in structure. So with a little practice and consistent effort, you can get closer to embodying your inner light," says Liu. The challenge here is to face the flames and learn to stand up for yourself. Mars in Libra is your reminder that you can be diplomatic without letting people disrespect you.
Uranus Retrograde in Taurus
From August 28, 2023, to January 27, 2024, Uranus will take a retrograde backspin that's set to change the collective perception. Uranus is the planet of change, rebellion, revolution, innovation, and awakening. It’s an outer planet that influences how the collective acts as a whole. When Uranus stations retrograde, it drastically alters society’s direction. Uranus is said to open the minds of people who are asleep. It offers you the chance to remove the blindfold from your eyes and rebel against the restrictions and limitations others try to place on you. These changes happen slowly at first and can quickly send a shock to your system.
When Uranus retrogrades in a sign like Taurus, which is ruled by Venus, the focus falls on relationships, finances, beauty, indulgence, and passion. Earlier this summer, Venus retrograde had everyone rethinking these very same topics. And now that everyone has done a lot of reconsideration – change is almost certain to come along with it. Whether it’s new philosophies taking shape in the public eye or old trends coming back from the past – nothing will look the same once this retrograde is over. In its own way, Uranus can be a trickster and a troublemaker. But hopefully, you'll find yourself moving in a more aligned direction when it's all said and done.

Full moons are the ideal time for emotional release, reflection, and renewal. And because supermoons are so energetically taxing, experts suggest taking things nice and easy. Saturn will also be cozying up to the Moon during this lunation – making it harder to express your feelings outwardly. Though you might find the answers you're looking for in a dream journal, manifestation notebook, or therapy session instead!

As the lead actor in your own life movie, you don’t simply read the lines of the script; you become the character that best represents the imprints of your soul," says Liu.
