The legendary and truly unique rap group started in 1992 with founding members RZA, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Method Man, and U-God, Inspectah Deck, and Masta Killa; they later picked up their close friend, Cappadonna.

With their martial arts-inspired tracks and the sheer size of their group, Wu-Tang introduced the world to another way to conceptualize what rap can sound and look like. In 2018, Hulu announced the streaming network was partnering with RZA to bring the story of the Wu-Tang Clan to the small screen. Per Hulu's statement, the planned premise of the show was to mirror the real-life story of the group. The statement read,"Set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the show tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who strives to unite a dozen young, black men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories."

Where Is Season One of Wu-Tang: An American Saga filmed?

The show is set in and around New York in the 1990s, and season one specifically begins in Park Hill, a neighborhood in Staten Island where the Wu-Tang grew up. As reported by SILive, Filming locations in the neighborhood include apartment complexes at 220 Osgood Ave. in Stapleton and 350 Vanderbilt Ave. in Clifton.

A source working on the set during the season explained to SILive that it was important to maintain authenticity when filming. As they put it, "We're trying to make this production as authentic as possible ... A lot of other films want to dress up neighborhoods to be something they're not. Here, we're filming what Staten Island actually looks like."

Both apartment complexes are meant to represent the ones that many of the members of Wu-Tang grew up in and are real homes of residents of the neighborhoods, which fans of the show who might want to visit should be mindful of.

Where is Season Two of Wu-Tang: An American Saga filmed?

Season two of the show chronicled the group's simultaneously unlikely and inevitable rise to fame, which moved the production to new areas of the region. More specifically, a post shared on Facebook by the City of Newark revealed that the city was home to many of the scenes filmed that season.

Fans and Newark residents who want to visit filming locations for season two have an abundance of spots to choose from. As shared by the city, these include Military Park, Independence Park, Commerce Street, 33 Washington Street, 744 Broad Street, South Ward, Robert Treat Hall, and Symphony Hall.

Military Park

Located in downtown Newark, this six-acre park has served as a filming location for the show throughout its run, especially in seasons one and two.

744 Broad Street

Production have used this office building in all three seasons of the show, and Wu member Raekwon announced in February 2023 that he plans to open Newark's first cannabis lounge on the same block.

Symphony Hall

Originally known as the Salaam Temple when it was built in 1925, Symphony Hall has always been a hub of entertainment and creative energy. The hall has hosted a number of performers, including Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, Judy Garland, and more. The hall serves as a venue in seasons two and three of Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

Additionally, season two of Wu-Tang: An American Saga, was shot exclusively in New Jersey. A few other locations are featured in the series, including Fever Night Club and Lounge, which acts as the Cricket Club in the show.

The first few episodes of season three show the Wu enjoying their new success while living in the woods of New Jersey in a mansion, as well as visiting record label executives in the city, and production again returned to the office buildings used in season two for these scenes.

While the second half of season three sees the group heading out on the road for their first tour with all members, in real life filming brought production back to New Jersey and New York. According to Collider, while photography for the show took place in New York City, filming locations in the cities include East Orange, Elmwood Park, Kearny, Newark, Paterson, Plainfield, and Secaucus.
