Meet the Latinx beauty brand that caught the attention of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
One way to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month is by showing your support to Latinx-owned beauty brands. By buying and promoting their products, you get to support small business owners in their growth and success.
The representation of Latinx culture is sometimes hard to find on the shelves of major retailers, especially when it comes to cosmetics; but, I was fortunate enough to stumble across Vive Cosmetics, a beauty brand that takes representation for the cultura seriously.
Founders Joanna Rosario and Leslie Valdivia have created their own lane in the beauty industry with a line that is rich in color. Each product possesses a powerful meaning and this is also reflected through marketing that illustrates the diversity of the Latinx community.
Watch above as Leslie and Joanna take us through some of their products and tell us how it caught the eye of one of the most respected Latinas in politics, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The Eres Magia Mirror
The mirror was inspired by a sticker that the brand would include with every order. It quickly became a fan favorite, with supporters adorning their personal belongings with the sticker, including laptops and water bottles.
Since Vive Cosmetics is deeply connected to their beauty community, Leslie and Joanna decided to honor that energy by creating this mirror. It’s meant to help you feel your magic!
The Luz and Glow Highlighter
This beautiful highlighter duo is incredibly versatile, much like the Latinx community.
The shimmering golden powders can be used to highlight different areas — cheeks, nose, upper lip and even eyes. And it looks stunning on light to darker skin tones. Anyone can look beautiful wearing these sparkling shades!
The Que Matte Liquid Lipstick
Everyone wants a beso-proof (kiss-proof) lipstick, especially if you’re wearing a face mask and don’t want to a lip color. A bold lipstick can be intimidating at first, but the outcome is so worth it. This best-selling product is perfect for a long-lasting matte finish that can survive any makeout session.
Recently the women behind Vive Cosmetics were floored when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez herself followed them on the brand’s Instagram account. Having high-profile figures like AOC at the forefront of making impactful change in the U.S. is incredibly inspiring to Leslie and Joanna. “She truly represents the power of our community,” says Joanna
