Vogue names Oregon State University among top fashion schools in US
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Vogue released its Best Fashion Schools for Design, Marketing, and More list in late May, with Oregon State University’s fashion program receiving high marks for its focus on sustainability and sports business.
The list includes schools offering diverse pathways in the fashion industry from fabric design to buying, merchandising and marketing.
“We’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the top fashion schools in the country, all of which receive top marks across key categories: specialized programs, diverse curriculums, study-abroad courses, extracurriculars, and internship opportunities. Of course, we also looked at each school’s facilities, location, alumni networks, and faculty,” Vogue said.

Topping Vogue’s list was the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NY.
The school received high marks across the board with nearly 50 undergraduate degree programs and access to internship and networking opportunities in the heart of the Big Apple.
FIT also has prominent alumni including Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, and Carolina Herrera.
Oregon State University’s apparel design program also made the list, receiving high marks for tracks in design and merchandising and opportunities to explore sports business and sustainability.

“For students who are interested in activewear or sustainability, seeking an education in the Pacific Northwest may be a suitable choice––Oregon State University alumni find themselves working with nearby, big-name companies like Nike, Adidas, and Columbia Sportswear,” Vogue said.
According to OSU, there were nearly 200 students enrolled in fashion design courses in spring 2024, along with 26 students pursuing a minor in merchandise management.
The fashion magazine also named Parsons School of Design, The New School in New York, NY, along with The School of Fashion at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia among the top schools in the United States.
