The Voice two-part finale is officially here, and folks are on the edge of their seats to see who will be crowned the season 21 winner. In the meantime, coach John Legend has made his own exciting announcement that will be taking him on the road next year.
On December 6, the Grammy-winning singer shared that he will soon be heading to Las Vegas for a new residency at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. John revealed his latest venture with a groovy video setting the mood for Love in Las Vegas. Opening night will kick off on April 22 and performances are scheduled through October 29. Comprised of 24 shows, fans can expect it to be “a beautiful, soulful concert experience, showcasing Legend’s greatest hits,” per a press release.
“Get ready for Love in Las Vegas!” John wrote on Instagram. “My 2022 Vegas residency featuring your favorite songs from my entire career… full band... beautiful show...magical night.”
After watching the ‘70s-inspired clip, which showed folks enjoying themselves with John on the piano, many fans immediately took to his Instagram comments section to congratulate him on his upcoming gig. “CONGRATULATIONS ??,” one person wrote. “This is the best news of the year!! Yo I’m ready and I’m THERE!!” another added. “Guess I’m going to Vegas in 2022!” another added. “SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!” a different fan said.
Apart from the performances featuring a medley of John’s hit songs, folks will also be treated to a show that is “a vibrant, colorful celebration of love and coming together,” much like the themes in his latest album Bigger Love.
Speaking on the radio show On Air With Ryan Seacrest, John opened up about why he landed on Vegas for his next project.
“A lot of artists used to look at it as a place to kind of retire after you’ve had a career and you do a residency there. But now, I think Vegas, in so many ways, has become such a great destination,” he said. “Now, you have myself, Adele and Carrie Underwood all doing residencies there and they’re still in the prime of their careers. Vegas is such a destination for people to come from all over the world, so it’s like touring without having to go too far from where you live because everybody is coming to you.”
What’s more, John teased that fans coming to his shows might even get to preview never-before-heard tracks. “We’ll probably play some new music too because I think I might put a new album out next year, so we’ll probably sprinkle in a couple new songs,” he said. “It’s highly likely. You never know what’s going to happen in life, but we’ve got a lot of music and it’s nearly ready.”
