VOTE: Who is this week's Courier & Press Student of the Week?
The Courier & Press is shining a light on the accomplishments and good deeds of local high school students.
We've asked officials from high schools in Evansville and the surrounding area to send nominations of a local student each week. If you want to vote for one of the students, go online to courierpress.com or visit the Courier & Press app. The Student of the Week poll will run from 4 a.m. Central on Monday through 9 a.m. Central on Thursday.
School officials can nominate students by emailing us each week at [email protected]. Nominations will be accepted each week from Monday through Thursday.

Here are this week's nominees. All nominations are written by school staff members.
Davis Schwartz, Southridge High School
Davis is a senior at Southridge High School that has been in the top 10 percent of his class all 4 years of high school. Along with academics, Davis is a three-sport athlete participating in football, basketball, and baseball. He is a Captain on the football team this season, and his leadership in the classroom and in sports is well-observed by his peers and members in the community. He also is a member of FCA and the Spirit Club at Southridge, in addition to being a member of Salem United Church. Somehow, on top of all of this, he owns his own business, Too Much Pressure, with some of his high school friends. They have owned this pressure washing business for almost two years. As you can tell, Davis is a busy young man. Most importantly, Davis is someone who treats everyone with respect and someone that others greatly admire at Southridge High School.
Ashlyn Hopf, Gibson Southern High School
Ashlyn demonstrated great integrity when she observed a situation that she felt needed to be brought to the immediate attention of school staff. School officials have frequently observed her friendly interactions with peers in the classroom serving students with special needs. She had a recent injury, but she hasn’t missed a beat at being at school. School staff have been very impressed at the leadership she has displayed already this school year.
Mallory Watt, Princeton Community High School
Mallory Watt is truly a remarkable young lady whose accomplishments are nothing short of impressive. From co-founding the Tiger Den, our registered LLC school apparel store, and Tigers Give Back, a community service club that performs good deeds monthly in the school district as well as the community at large, to excelling in athletics and 4-H, she consistently surpasses expectations. Mallory’s running achievements make her one of the top runners in the state of Indiana. She currently holds the top GPA ranking for the Junior class. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to community involvement make her a standout student leader. There is no doubt that Mallory exemplifies excellence in everything she undertakes!
Elias Miller, Bosse High School
Eli is an outstanding Bosse High School senior who excels both on the soccer field and in the classroom. His commitment to academic success is matched by his dedication to being a kind and supportive teammate. Eli consistently goes the extra mile in everything he does, demonstrating strong integrity and a genuine care for others. He truly embodies Bosse's mission statement.
Austin Plisky, Central High School
Austin is an exceptional student with a remarkable ability to balance a wide range of commitments while maintaining a high level of academic achievement at Central High School. His involvement in diverse activities, such as the student council, National Honor Society, varsity baseball and tennis, alongside his leadership role as senior class president and president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, showcases his dedication, leadership, and time management skills. Maintaining a 4.16 GPA while handling such a demanding schedule is truly impressive and speaks to his strong work ethic and academic abilities. His willingness to step up and help others further highlights his commitment to both his personal growth and the well-being of his peers.
Shelby Lang, Mount Vernon High School
Shelby Lang is a kind and dedicated senior at Mount Vernon High School. Shelby’s leadership shines through her involvement in Student Council, FFA, Key Club, PEERS Project, National Honor Society, Sunshine Association, and golf, as well as 4-H and the community garden. She holds numerous officer positions and has earned several awards among the clubs and organizations she is involved in, all while maintaining high grades and being a role model for her peers.
