'Vulnerable' Reese Witherspoon Opens Up About Divorce From Jim Toth
It has been a handful of months since news broke that Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth were getting a divorce, and the actress is slowly moving on and opening up about it all.
The star spoke about the divorce with Harper's Bazaar in a new interview accompanying her cover shoot, noting, “It’s a vulnerable time for me."
But Witherspoon also touched on how different this divorce has been from the end of her marriage with Ryan Phillippe, and for the better. She went into her second divorce with an earnest perspective, saying, "All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable."
She and Toth shared the news themselves via social media, with Witherspoon explaining, "To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening."
"When I was divorced before, the tabloid media got to tell people how I was feeling or how I was processing, and it felt very out of control," said the actress, referring to her and Phillippe's 2008 split.
Luckily, Witherspoon has a lot of support while going through her divorce with Toth and she's looking positively to the future: "I think about how many other people are going through this experience. I don’t feel isolated at all. I feel very connected.”
Witherspoon and Toth got married in 2011 and they share a son, Tennessee, 10. The Morning Show star also shares two children–Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19–with Phillippe.
