Wait, How Did Ellen DeGeneres and Meghan Markle Become Friends??

Earlier this week, Ellen DeGeneres ever so casually dropped the news that she recently spent some time with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and baby Archie.

In addition to making us very (very) jealous, the announcement made us wonder how the duchess and TV mogul became friends in the first place. It turns out, their connection began as so many do: with dogs.

Markle told Best Health back in May 2016 that she was in an animal shelter debating whether to adopt her first dog, Bogart, when Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi came in and asked Markle if the dog she had her eye on was hers. “And I said, ‘No,’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m deciding.’ And she’s like, ‘Rescue the dog!’” Markle said.

Markle did end up adopting the dog because, in her words, Ellen told her to. “It’s sort of like if Oprah tells you to do something,” she said. “I’m sitting there holding him and she’s like, ‘Have you thought of a name for him yet?’ And I said, ‘Well, I think I’d name him Bogart,’ and she’s like, ‘You’re taking the dog home.’”

In her monologue, DeGeneres revealed, "I got to hold little Archie, the baby. I fed Archie, I held Archie. He weighs 15 pounds, which, the exchange rate, I believe, is $17 here." Very clever, Ellen.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to provide any photos (obviously), but she told the audience that the royal baby definitely resembles his father.

"He looks like Harry," she said. Stating that he had a “perfectly circular head, just like Harry,” and a lot of hair.

Take us with you next time, Ellen?
