  • Loretta Lynn and Kid Rock are long-time friends, and the two have shared a running joke that, if the opportunity presented itself, they’d get married.

  • When Loretta’s son Ernie renewed his vows over the weekend, the opportunity arose and they took to Instagram to tease their fans.

Alright y’all, hold on to your cowboy hats.

Sometime over the last weekend in August, Loretta Lynn and Kid Rock finally (supposedly) made good on their promise to each other that, if the opportunity presented itself, they’d get married.

On Monday, August 31, following what’s been called a “Hillbilly Soiree,” 88-year-old Loretta took to Instagram to share that the duo had finally tied the knot.

“What a weekend! My Ernie & Crystal renewed their vows this weekend,” the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer captioned a photo of her grinning ear-to-ear at Kid. “It was beautiful and everything it should be. Marriage isn't always easy—heck it's not even always pretty, but love holds you together and you push through the bad days to enjoy the good ones. I'm so proud of them and wish them years of happiness. Things got crazy then—my boy @kidrock was there and we've always teased about getting ourselves married. Well, the preacher was already there so we had some fun with it. Sorry girls, he's taken now!”

Possibly the best part of the couple’s nuptials announcement was Loretta’s hashtags on the post: #gottahavesomefun, #88andfeelinggreat, #tabloidfodder, and #cougar among them.

The fans, of course, were all for the match, whether it was real or not. "This is THE BEST thing I’ve seen all day ????" one user commented, while another added,"I love it!!!! You and Kid Rock. Match made in Heaven."

Now, before you go spending too much time looking into Loretta and Kid’s love life, know that it’s all just one big joke.

“Well, it didn’t last long, y’all but it sure was fun!” Loretta wrote in a follow-up post on Monday night. “I guess I better get on here and let y’all know that it was just a joke—[Kid Rock] and I didn’t get married over the weekend, but we had a blast.
