Love It or List It has been on the air for over a decade. And, if you’ve been tuning in all the while, you may have noticed that the appearance of the locale shifted a bit. The reason being? Filming for the HGTV show moved South.
Like Renovation Island, Love It or List It actually began as a Canadian series, and filming took place in Ontario. Despite where it was shot, the home renovation series became a popular franchise on HGTV in the United States. As such, in 2014, after filming in Ontario for six years, hosts Hilary Farr and David Visentin, along with the crew, picked up and headed to North Carolina to start fresh in a new city.
While some shows struggle after a few years — or after transitioning to a new location —Love It or List It has remained one of the most popular home renovation shows on cable TV.
As a refresher, Love It or List It focuses on couples who no longer feel fulfilled by their home. With that in mind, the show navigates homeowners’ decision to renovate or sell their home. Where Hilary works on renovating the current home and designing it to be as appealing as possible based on the homeowners’ wants and needs, David puts his real estate chops to the test to find a home that checks off as many boxes as possible.
Needless to say, it’s entertaining to see which direction homeowners take in the process, and that’s precisely why the show has continued to inspire viewers across the world. Best of all, thanks to streaming services and re-runs, you don’t have to perfectly time your schedule to tune in. With 18 seasons to date, there are plenty of episodes to drum up on discovery+, YouTube, and Prime Video.
And, if in doing so you find that you love the area as much as the homes being showcased, know that you can experience it for yourself by booking a trip to the Tar Heel state — specifically the Triangle and greater Raleigh-Durham area.
