People always ask me where they’re from.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m sometimes too quick to judge. I dismissed Hailey Bieber’s Rhode skincare because it just felt like another celebrity beauty line… only to learn my skin loves it. I adamantly opposed low-rise jeans until I found a pair that worked for me. And, when Rothy’s first popped up in the late 2010s, I was the first to say “that’s not happening.” The San Francisco-based shoe brand, which uses 3D knitting technology, felt too techy to be fashionable. But years (and many miles) later, I can admit that I was wrong.

After Mary Janes became the hottest shoe you could own in 2023, I started looking for a pair I could wear everyday. I wanted that darling look but needed something comfortable and durable, which is often hard to find in a flat shoe. It was during this search that I discovered the Meghan Markle-worn brand I’d long sworn off had a pair of classic-looking Mary Janes that checked off every box on my list — so I decided to finally give them a try.

Rothy’s Square Mary Janes were, to my dismay, an immediate winner. The shoes are unfussy and uncomplicated. They boast a simple, timeless look that can match just about any outfit I pair them with, while their practical details (including being machine-washable!) make them so easy to wear. They’ve quickly become the only pair of shoes I reach for — the brand’s cherry red Mary Janes, baggy jeans, and a sweater are my unofficial winter uniform.

This style — available in seven colors — is made from a stretchy, breathable knit material that forms to the foot, removing the break-in period and blisters that come with most new shoes. Plus, the flexible straps allow you to slip them on and off in a matter of seconds. One shopper loved how the stretchy Mary Janes “fit [them] like a glove,” writing that they’re “comfortable and easy to wear.” And per another fan, this is “the perfect easy shoe that still looks sophisticated.”

But beyond the versatile look and practical elements, these shoes are just ridiculously comfortable. The cushioned insoles mold to my feet and support every step, while the outsoles provide actual, substational traction (a first for my flats collection). Without even thinking about it, I walked just over three miles in these shoes, and my feet didn’t complain during or after. One customer shared a similar experience, writing that they “walked over 10,000 steps” in them right out of the box with “no blisters or any discomfort.” Another shopper added that they felt like “walking on clouds.”

I’m officially a forever-fan of Rothy’s thanks to its Square Mary Janes, which are straightforward, comfortable, and a compliment-magnet. If you’re looking for a stylish pair of flats that you (and your feet) will want to wear, grab my go-tos today for $159.
