I've tried my share of bargain-basement TVs in recent years, and many have been disappointing in one way or another. That's why it's very tempting to splurge on a high-end model, especially when Walmart is offering significant Cyber Week 2021 discounts on half a dozen top-rated LG TVs.
How significant? Many of them have been slashed to their lowest prices ever. And they come with a pretty sweet freebie as well: six months of HBO Max (a $90 value).
The six models on sale range from 48 inches on up to 77 inches, all of them "smart" (meaning they have not only streaming apps built in, but also your choice of Alexa or Google voice assistants), all of them built with OLED screens (more on that in a minute), all of them among the top-rated TVs in their class.
Obviously your budget will help determine the size you end up with, but there are a couple other considerations here as well. Four of these models are from LG's C1 lineup, two from the more affordable A1 series. Here are the deals, followed by some information to help you choose.
EXPIRED: LG OLED48C1PUB 48-inch C1 Series: $1,097 (save $503)
LG OLED55C1PUB 55-inch C1 Series: $1,297 (save $703)
LG OLED65A1PUA 65-inch A1 Series: $1,497 (save $503)
LG OLED65C1PUB 65-inch C1 Series: $1,797 (save $703)
LG OLED77A1PUA 77-inch A1 Series: $2,697 (save $300)
LG OLED77C1PUB 77-inch C1 Series: $2,897 (save $400)
Differences between the A1 and C1 Series? Let's start with at the bottom: The A1 models stand on fairly traditional feet, while the C1s rest on a sort of flat base. I think the latter offers a nicer look, but this is hardly a deciding factor.
No, the key differences are in the specs. For starters, the A1 Series offers three HDMI ports, the C1 Series four. If you don't have many external devices to plug in (game consoles, etc.), that probably won't matter.
But speaking of games, the C1 Series is widely regarded as a better choice for gamers thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate and variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. The C1 series can also remove "judder" from more sources than the A1, a boon to serious movie buffs.
All that said, these are great TVs that have scored top marks from reviewers and users alike. (Average Walmart customer score on all six models: 4.8 stars out of 5.) Indeed, if you've never seen an OLED-based TV, they're significantly brighter and more colorful than traditional LCD models. Colors pop. Shadows look smooth and dark. For anyone seeking the best possible image quality, OLED is worth the splurge.
