When will warm weather come and stay? Here's what the Farmers' Almanac editors predict

So far, spring has been cold, rainy, and windy, and the Farmers' Almanac predicts that this weather pattern will continue for the next couple of weeks.

According to the Farmers' Almanac editors, communities through out New England will experience thunderstorms between Monday, April 8, and Thursday, April 11. The Almanac also predicts unseasonably warm temperatures from Friday, April 12, through Monday, April 15. The following day, Tuesday, April 16, the editors predict a "possible late-season wet snow" in the northern parts of New England, while the southern parts might see just rain. The forecast ends Friday, April 19.

The almanac editors' forecast relies on a proprietary mathematical and astronomical formula that accounts for several factors, including sunspot activity, the moon's tidal action, and the positions of the planets.

The 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service at Norton predicts showers after 12 p.m. and patchy fog between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11. Rain will continue into the following day, Friday, April 12, and there is a chance of thunderstorms before 1 p.m. with patch fog before 3 p.m. There is a 30% chance of rain on Friday night before midnight. On Saturday, April 13, it will be mostly cloudy and breezy, with winds up to 20 mph and a high near 50 degrees. Sunday, April 14, is predicted to be a partly sunny day with a high near 57 degrees. That night, there is a 30% chance of rain shower.

Here's what the editors of the Farmers' Almanac predict for the rest of the spring season.

How does the rest of April look?

The almanac editors said the New England region can anticipate clearer skies and milder temperatures between Saturday, April 20, and Tuesday, April 23. But that doesn't last long for New Englanders; the editors predict a sudden drop in cold temperatures between Wednesday, April 24, and Saturday, April 27. According to the editors, there is also a chance of rain, but it looks like a mostly dry three-day period.

The Farmers' Almanac editors predict the unseasonably cold will continue through the end of April. Between Sunday, April 28, and Tuesday, April 30, the New England region may experience heavy rain and, in some parts, heavy wet snow.

Will May be the month of spring-like weather?

The editors have not yet made a lengthy forecast prediction for May in the New England region, but they foresee colder temperatures throughout the month and the possibility of widespread severe storms throughout the United States. The editors predict warmer weather will hesitate to move toward the East Coast.

Specifically for the New England region, they predict fresh, colder air and frequent rain showers by Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.

What does the Farmers' Almanac predict for June?

The editors have not yet posted an in-depth June forecast for the New England region, but they predict a very cloudy day on Sunday, June 16, for anyone celebrating Father's Day this year.

A few things to keep in mind until the editors release their June forecast: Spring runs through Wednesday, June 19, and the first day of summer is Thursday, June 20. The editors predict a "summer soaker" for the season. Also, hurricane season starts Saturday, June 1, and runs until Saturday, November 30.
