Khalil Alrefaey owns Waste Valet. He said the idea came to him about three months ago. He typically takes his elderly neighbor's trash to the curb and back to her house. After thinking it over, he wondered how many people like his neighbor could use a service like that.

"I thought to myself that I can help many people around here," Alrefaey said. "Especially in the Lafayette area."

That help comes from Alrefaey and an employee. Waste Valet is a subscription-based service charged a flat rate each month. There are no contracts.

Subscriptions to Waste Valet vary depending on the number of trash cans you have and the length of your driveway.

Here is a breakdown of the cost and the tiers you can get:

  • $39 a month for 1-2 trash cans

  • $44 a month for 3-plus trash cans

  • $44 a month for trash cans with a 50-plus foot driveway

  • $49 a month for 3-plus trash cans with a 50-plus foot driveway

Once a subscriber picks a tier, their information is sent to Waste Valet. Alrefaey sets up a schedule, and they go from there. They attend to your garbage 16 times a month for both trash and recycling, and the process is straightforward, Alrefaey said.

Alrefaey or his employee goes out the night before your trash is scheduled to be picked up and brings it to your curb. The next day, when the trash is picked up, they will go back and bring your trash can to the area where it is stored.

"We will take a picture and text it to that person to confirm we did our job," Alrefaey said.

They already added that you get your first two weeks for free when you sign up.

Waste Valet is aimed more toward older people, Airbnb owners or those busy throughout the week. Alrefaey said Waste Valet is a chore they are willing to take off subscribers’ hands.

"We take that extra chore out of your hands," Alrefaey said.

Currently, Waste Valet services the Lafayette, Youngsville, and the Broussard area.

If successful, Alrefaey said there would be plans to steam and pressure wash trash cans every quarter.
