When and How to Watch the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

What can we expect from this year's ceremony? When are the 2023 VMAs?
This year's Video Music Awards will take place on Sept. 12, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET.

Where will the 2023 VMAs be held?
The 2023 VMAs will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, where it was held last year and in 2019.
Newark's mayor Ras J. Baraka told MTV, "Awarding Newark as host city for the 2023 VMAs echoes not only our selection by MTV in 2022 and 2019, but also reverberates our city's historic vibe as a hotbed of musical genius. Starting with America's first known composer in 1759, through the jazz explosion in the 1920s, and up to today's full spectrum of genres from hip hop to opera, Newark has long served as America's turntable for harmonic expression."
The VMAs had a virtual ceremony in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and it was held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in 2021.
Who will host the 2023 VMAs?
MTV has not yet announced a host (or hosts!) for the 2023 VMAs. The 2022 ceremony was emceed by Nicki Minjaj, LL Cool J and Jack Harlow, marking the first time since 1986 that the event had multiple masters of ceremony.

Who are the 2023 VMAs nominees?
MTV hasn't announced its nominees just yet. In 2022, MTV revealed its full list of nominees in late July, just about a month ahead of the ceremony. Assuming the network follows a similar timeline this year, you can expect a list of nominees by mid August.
Last year, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar led with seven nods; Doja Cat and Harry Styles trailed with six; and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd each received five.
Video of the Year went to Swift, Best Album went to Styles and Artist of the Year went to Bad Bunny. Nicki Minaj took home the Video Vanguard Award.
