Watch the ‘Brilliant’ 17YO Blind Singer Earn ‘AGT’ Golden Buzzer
Putri Ariani has dreamed of being on America’s Got Talent since she was little. Not that that was that long ago as she is only 17 years old. But the blind Indonesian high school singer/songwriter is hoping that her appearance on the talent competition will help her reach one of her dreams: she wants to attend Juilliard College of Music when she graduates.
But her dreams go bigger than that. She told the AGT audience, “My dream is being the biggest diva in the world like Whitney Houston and to win a Grammy Award.”
Putri began her audition with an original song that showed off her voice to such an extent that Simon Cowell ran up on stage and told Putri that her voice was amazing and introduced himself to her father. And then he asked if she had a second song and would she sing it. She agreed. Her second song was Elton John’s “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”

Sofia Vergara asked Putri how she felt, and the teenager was so excited, she couldn’t get words out, so Sofia gave her critique: “We are all mesmerized by you. Your voice, you’re an angel.”
“I think you just used the word,” Howie Mandel added. “A lot of people don’t believe in angels, and I think one just landed on our stage. You’re a superstar.”
Then Heidi Klum said, “You sounded so beautiful tonight, especially the very first song you sang. The way you switched from your chest voice to your head voice.”
That’s when Putri revealed that that was an original song, causing Howie to say, “That’s even more amazing.” The audience gave her another standing ovation with that news.
“We’re all feeling the same thing,” Simon said. “You’re 17, you write songs, you’ve got an amazing, distinctive voice, and I mean really, really good. You have kind of a glow about you, and you’re waiting for something at your school. Tell me about it.”
Putri told him, “I really want to go to Juilliard.”

Simon said, “OK. I don’t know if this is going to make a difference or not, however…” And he hit the Golden Buzzer.
“You are one of the best singers we have ever had on our show,” Simon said when he went up on stage.
When host Terry Crews asked why Putri, Simon said, “Because she’s brilliant.” And he bent down and scooped up some of the gold confetti and placed it in her hand, so she would have a keepsake of the moment.
