Watch: Camille Kostek Surprises 'Sports Illustrated' 2022 Swim Search Winner
From fan to family!
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit just finished its 2022 Swim Search for new models, and the newest rookie got the news that she won with an emotional reveal from none other than Camille Kostek.
Kostek, who officially joined the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit family through the 2018 Swim Search, welcomed 2023 rookie Mady Dewey to the team with a subtle surprise as she interviewed the 25-year-old.
In a touching video you can watch here on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Kostek talked to Dewey about her experience joining Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and walking the runway at Swim Week, which Dewey did as a finalist for the search back in July.
Then, Kostek smoothly transitioned to reveal the exciting news. "You might have to practice a little more in the mirror because you have your rookie shoot coming up for 2023, and I want to know how you feel about that.”
Dewey's jaw dropped in shock before she simply responded: "You're kidding."
But Kostek assured her that she was serious and that this was in fact not a very cruel joke.
"Congratulations! You are the Swim Search winner and one of our new rookies for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2023. Welcome to the family!”
Then even more people on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit team, including editor-in-chief MJ Day, joined the video call to congratulate Dewey before she thanked them in return.
After she finished processing the fantastic news, Dewey attempted to describe how she felt in that very moment.
"I think I’ve gone through every single possible human emotion in the last hour. I’ve screamed, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried. I think I’m just overwhelmed and beyond grateful and so excited for what’s to come. It means the absolute world. It’s a dream come true. I’m just so excited for what’s to come."
Kostek was the perfect person to tell Dewey for a few different reasons. First off, Kostek went through the same experience in 2018, when she won the Sports Illustrated Swim Search and was surprised by the news during an interview.
Along with that, Dewey shared that Kostek was a big reason why she even entered the search. "I’ve been a fan of SI Swimsuit since I was 14 years old, but I never thought that it was something that I would be able to do until I saw Camille Kostek," she told Sports Illustrated.
"Seeing her go through the Swim Search process with a similar body type to mine changed everything. And I loved how she spoke about how she had never had the opportunity to model before, but it had always been a dream for her. It’s very similar to my story."
Now, both women are officially part of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit family.
